D i e t- what I feed my dogs

Years ago the dog treats I thought were safe were recalled after my Samoyed and many other people’s beloved pets died from them and what I thought was a safe dog food
(off the top 10 dog food list) that I fed for years is now associated DCM Dilated Cardiomyopathy and most likely contributed to one of my Cavalier’s death.

I worry about what is actually in commercial dog foods, where the ingredients are sourced from and what the cooking methods do to the food along with the endless food recalls we keep hearing about in the news. Now I have peace of mind that I won’t be poisoning my dogs.

I have been getting many requests for the recipe I use for my dogs’ food ever since I casually posted on Facebook that I cook for my dogs.  A co-worker of mine shared this recipe with me after he did much research  on what to feed his dog who was very ill.

This diet  he shared with me was developed by a veterinarian and I have been very happy with it and my dogs LOVE it!!! I only make it once a week and it only takes me about 20 minutes prepare/put the ingredients into a crockpot. It can either cook on low all day while I work or all night while I sleep.  I feed a third cup to my dogs twice a day and I also use a holistic USA made and sourced daily multivitamin.

Since I started feeding this to my dogs in August of 2018, I have seen my dogs health and energy levels improve drastically. This is no more expensive than a high-quality food from a feed store. For me there was no returning to commercial foods, my dogs are worth it!

Below is my version of the original recipe that I have adapted, click to see the original recipe here4 large chicken breasts, 1/2 package of chicken hearts/gizzards and 1/2 container of chicken livers

5 large carrots sliced, 2 cups green beans, 2 chopped apples, 1 clove of garlic minced

Half of a large can of pumpkin, 2 tablespoons of crushed egg shell, 1 tsp salt, 1 tsp ground tumeric, 1 tsp dried mustard powder, 6 tablespoons of coconut oil

1-1/2 cups of long grain rice, 4 cups of water

1/2 a bag of Spinach/Kale combo

Cook in crockpot for 7-8 hours on low

Stir thoroughly, chicken will shred itself

I feed 1/3 cup twice a day to all 3 dogs: I have tasted it, its delicious!

I put these containers in the lowest shelf of my fridge which keeps them semi frozen for a week

Here is the Multi vitamin recommended for the diet, there are also other choices available
you just mix this with their breakfast and dinner
